Well as it turns out, Johan Santana didn't have arthroscopic surgery to repair the sack in his shoulder. I love how the Mets, without their two best players in the line up, manage to compile a season high in runs and hits when the season is all but over. They had 3 innings where they scored 5 runs, which is more than they score in most games. Granted it's against the Cubs, who are pretty bad. Still, how come now? Why not July? The Mets released Alex Cora today. I'm glad because he was a mere 16 appearances away from triggering his 2 million dollar contract for next year. Alex is a good teammate and a decent back up infielder. The problem is he played way too much for the Mets over the past two seasons, and you realize he's not really that good anymore. I wonder why the hell am I being so optimistic about this team. Why am I convincing myself everyday that they are still in this race? Is it because I am that passionate a fan? Or it is because I remember not too long ago when this very team had a 7.5 game lead with 17 games to play and they blew it? I suppose if it happened against them, it certainly can happen for them. I don't know how true this article I found on Bleacher Report is. If it is however, it makes me really question the Wilpon's financial "problems" and wonder why they aren't spending more money to make this team better. In fact, it kind of infuriates me.
